About Build Hope Foundation

Who We Are

A community-based organization committed to improving the well-being, resilience, and dignity of vulnerable children, families, and communities across Uganda.

Our Story

Working alongside communities facing exclusion and vulnerability

Build Hope Foundation (BHF) was established to work alongside marginalized and vulnerable people and communities facing poverty, exclusion, disability, food insecurity, limited access to essential services, and other barriers to well-being and development.

BHF brings together community understanding, technical expertise, local partnerships, and an integrated approach to address these challenges. Rather than addressing individual problems in isolation, we work with households and communities to understand how health, nutrition, livelihoods, protection, education, WASH, housing, and social inclusion interact.

Our work is rooted in the belief that vulnerable people should not only receive assistance but should also have the opportunity to participate in decisions affecting their lives, strengthen their capacities, recover from shocks, and build more resilient futures.

Today, BHF is developing its institutional and programme capacity while strengthening partnerships with communities, government, civil society, development partners, and other stakeholders.

Our Vision

A society where vulnerable children, families, and communities live with dignity, resilience, and equal opportunities to thrive and reach their full potential.

Our Mission

To improve the well-being, resilience, and dignity of vulnerable children, families, and communities through timely humanitarian assistance and integrated, community-driven, and sustainable interventions in health, nutrition, livelihoods, protection and safeguarding, education, inclusion, and systems strengthening.

Our Core Values

What guides our work

1. Inclusiveness

We embrace diversity and ensure that individuals and communities are treated with dignity, fairness, and respect.

2. Compassion

We provide support with empathy, care, and sensitivity to the needs and experiences of vulnerable people.

3. Integrity

We uphold transparency, accountability, ethical conduct, and responsible stewardship in everything we do.

4. Empowerment

We build the capacities of individuals, households, and communities so that they can influence their own lives and futures.

5. Commitment

We remain committed to long-term support, sustainable solutions, and meaningful change for vulnerable populations.

Our Strategic Priorities

Integrated priorities for interconnected needs

BHF’s programming is organized around integrated strategic priorities that respond to the interconnected needs of vulnerable children, families, and communities. These priorities reflect the areas of focus established in BHF’s organizational framework.

01Integrated Health, Rehabilitation and Care

05Protection, Safeguarding and Accountability
06Research, Partnerships and Sustainability
07Awareness, Inclusion and Stigma Reduction

09Inclusive Education

Our Theory of Change

An integrated, household-centred approach

Vulnerable households experience multiple and interconnected challenges. Sustainable change therefore requires more than a single intervention. BHF applies an integrated, household-centred Theory of Change that recognizes the relationship between health, nutrition, protection, WASH, housing, livelihoods, education, and social inclusion.

When vulnerable households and communities have access to appropriate services, knowledge, resources, protection, opportunities, and supportive local systems — and when communities are meaningfully involved in designing and implementing solutions — they are better able to recover from shocks, improve their well-being, strengthen resilience, and achieve greater self-reliance.

Pathway 1

Humanitarian Response

Meeting urgent needs and protecting vulnerable people during crises and periods of heightened vulnerability.

Pathway 2

Recovery & Systems Strengthening

Strengthening households, community structures, service providers, and local systems to improve access, quality, continuity, and sustainability of services.

Pathway 3

Resilience & Self-Reliance

Supporting livelihoods, food security, skills, community ownership, social inclusion, and sustainable practices that enable households and communities to better withstand future shocks.

Cross-Cutting Principles

Across all three pathways, BHF integrates:

Safeguarding Accountability Inclusion Disability sensitivity Gender responsiveness Participation Human dignity Environmental sustainability Evidence and learning
Organizational Structure & Governance

Accountable Leadership. Responsible Stewardship. Community Focus.
